I have just rebuilt an old server (with okay specs) that I want to use as an Exchange 2000 server. I have already installed Server 2003 and joined it to our CC3 network. I have not yet added AD as I would like to ask if there will be any issues with a CC3 network before I do? I have had a comment from an RM support guy who says that RM will be unable to support the server, although he will help me configure the RM products to talk to it.

I have used Exchange a for a while and I have installed it a couple of times to other domains but only when I was fully responsible, I am not sure how heavy RM will get if anything goes wrong?

Is this the place to ask for help/comments?

You might get more people offering suggestions in the "Microsoft" bit but then this joint is still small enough it doesn't really matter.

You don't need me to tell you the obvious stuff like backups, etc, "just in case" but we've been managing our own exchange servers for years on Connect 2.3 onwards. We've ran Exchange 5.5, 2000, & 2003 and never had anything fall over because of it.

You should be aware that Exchange 2000 & 2003 do make heavy use of AD, but as you've got a fairly new install of CC3 I'm guessing you also have fairly highly spec servers so again this should not be an issue.

One immediate problem that springs to mind is that Exchange 2000 will not run on Windows 2003.

Windows NT can run Exchange 4 to 5.5
Windows 2000 can run Exchange 5.5, 2000, or 2003
Windows 2003 can run Exchange 2003.

Hi Guys,

 Ive just added a non RM Exchange server to my CC3 netowrk as a member server and have a couple of issues.

 The main one being that unless I use the link to AD Users and Computers on the Exchange Server I cant see the Exchange tabs on the properties page of a user.

 Is this something I should be concerned about do you think?

No this is standard, you need to install the Exchange management tools anywhere you need to manipulate exchange attributes - whether system attributes via exchange's system manager or user attributes via ADU&C
