O2 to get exclusive rights to sell iPhone in the UK?

As reported here by the BBC anyway.

If this is true then this is a move of absolute genius proportions on the part of Apple. Giving the contract to a company that couldn't carry a reliable phone signal if you gave them a basket to put it in is one way to make sure no-one notices how slow EDGE is. Or maybe we'll be seeing an updated 3G phone here in Europe... in which case no one will be able to afford to do anything with their phone given the way O2 gouge their customers on data contracts.
