Someone Else

Robert Moir writes about Operating Systems, Computer Security and Virtualisation.

Why products don't ship on time, and nobody likes them when they do.

Well it made me laugh. I've been here myself a few times with internal projects and "Real Actual Shipping Products for Paying Customers (c)(tm)(r)" and there is definitely a few grains of truth on this page. Also, it's funny. I like funny.

No more Vista review just yet. I've been away and busy on a SharePoint 2007 course all week with these guys. Very good course, superb instructor, good hotel room, great crowd on the course from all over the place. As is common now, the course made heavy use of Virtual Machines to deliver the server setup we needed. It's funny, at one time people were amazed to see any kind of VM at all, now everyone just takes them for granted.

Now I've got to go into work Monday and talk about how we plan to use SharePoint ourselves. There's a lot of work to be done here! SharePoint is an amazing product, yet still with some very odd gaps in the feature list. I'm amazed at what it can do but appalled at gaps in things like folder support in document libraries, and let's not forget the dreadful backup and restore process. Still, it might be worth getting to grips with despite all that, we shall see.
